Renaissance Pleasure Faire – April 2009.  Dressed in their finest costumes over a dozen ROFs attended the yearly Renaissance Pleasure Faire in Irwindale (actually others think they are costumes; for the ROFs its just today’s clothes).  As expected, they were very much pleasured and reminded of their childhood.  The Faire has been an annual Southern California event for more than 40 years. The event was documented by our very own semi-pro videographer, Bob Keller, USC film school graduate.   

 

 

Sholar-Fields Wedding-October 2008.  Stan Sholar and Marlene Fields were married October 4, 2008. After the wedding the guests gathered to celebrate the event. Shown in the video are snapshots of the wedding and the reception that followed – showing the ROFs can still dance a jig…. Video by Flint Smith

 

 

Train to LA –March 2009.  Eighteen ROFs take the train from Orange County to downtown Los Angeles to have lunch at Philippe.  Philippe created the French Dip sandwich either because the rolls were stale that day or he accidently dropped the roll into the au jus or had a streak of creativity; we don’t know.  Those taking the road trip were Bob & Kathy Keller, Flint & Ruth Smith, Gary Benedict, Don Lynn, Terri & Terry Machleit, Dave & Bobbe Mootchnik, John Pearson, Steve Powers, Ron Davis & Julia Tafel, Rip & Ann Van Winkle, and Bob & Nancy Williams.  Video by Flint Smith

 

 

ROF Riviera Cruise - November 2006, thirty some odd  ROFs cruised down to Acapulco on the Norwegian Star - no one fell overboard or sent to the brig (unlike the last time).  After Acapulco they returned stopping at Zihuatanejo, Puerto Vallarta and Cabo San Lucas.  A good time was had by all as you can tell from the video.  (Video by Flint Smith

Don Black's 80th Birthday - A Sentimental Journey - - October 18, 2003.  Over 100 friends and family surprised Don Black at a party celebrating his 80th birthday with food, drink, music, pictures (yes, they had cameras back then) and tales of his youth (to his embarrassment. Party Time! About 50 attended the (nearly) annual ROF Beach Party in Huntington Beach- August 2005.  Vast amounts of food and drink were consumed (just look at the attendees!).  Flint Smith and Bob Keller made this short video of the gathering....see who you can recognize.

 

 

Magic!!  Twenty-five to thirty ROFs gather once a month for lunch.   Dick Lenell invited a friend to the the May lunch - Johnny Ace Palmer who is a master magician - in fact he was named the World Champion Magician.  This video is a sample of his magic act.  He's goooooood!!

 

 

My Kind of Toy.  This is a video e-mail sent to an old college buddy.  Both he and I are pilots and are enamored by any thing that flies (except flies).  While on a mission to buy a kitchen gadget at a local mall I found this toy that I just had to have.

 

 

Pacific Palisades Rain Report.  During the 2005 Biblical-like California rains and because TV was wrought with re-runs, a video report of the near-catastrophic 1000 year storms was made.  Since the TV Networks wouldn't air it, the clip is being shown here.

 

 

A Fun Day in Los Angeles.  To sign-up for the annual bike ride that precedes the annual Los Angeles Marathon, the Orange Country ROF bikers took the train up to downtown Los Angles to do the deed and to explore the downtown area.  This does show some ROFs do have time-on-their-hands. 

 

 

 

The French Inn Puppies.  John Pearson's, and his daughter, Sarah's French Inn in Orange County is home to Hanna, a Golden Retriever.  Hanna recently had an affair with a handsome suitor from up the street.  That affair produced 11 purebred puppies which keep Hanna and the owners busy until the puppies found a new home.

 

 

 

 

Lane Victory.  For a month out of the year, the Lane Victory, a WWII Liberty ship, takes tourists from San Pedro to Catalina   During the voyage the Germans attack the ship but thanks to the Army Air Force the German planes are shot down.  The ship arrives safely back in harbor. Segway Experience  Bob Keller, Dub Egbert, Flint and Ruth Smith, Gary Benedict and Dave Mootchnik travel to San Diego where they rent Segways, the personal transporter, to tool around Balboa Park for an hour or so.  Great fun!  If you are in San Diego, this is a must. Alaskan Cruise  Ken and Rosita Kiser, Terry and Terri Machleit, John and Nancy Pearson, Flint and Ruth Smith, Dennis and Clara Fitzgerald and Dub Egbert fly to Anchorage Alaska and board the Princess Dawn for a cruise down the Alaskan inland waterway.  Beautiful scenery and quaint towns.  (Video by Flint Smith)

 

 

 

 

Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta  Ruth and Flint Smith, Smitty and Jackie Wilcox, Steve and Donna Bufty, Rock and Lois Duitman, Stan and Yvonne Sholar, Don and Mary Bradbury, Duane and Kay Steputis, Don and Joan Roop, Harry and Kay Doerr, Jim Kiefer and Dub Egbert meet in Albuquerque for their annual Hot Air Balloon Fiesta.  A sight to behold!    (Video by Flint Smith)
